March 2018

Our next stop was Nashville.  We stayed at a great RV part that was called Safe Harbor.  It was on a beautiful lake, and our campsite was exceptional.  Great RV park!!  We highly recommend it!!

We loved Nashville.  It was as wonderful as Memphis. We had great chances to see the things we had heard about in Nashville!!  Our first stop in Nashville was the Hermitage.  We had a wonderful tour of the home and loved what we learned about Andrew Jackson. He was a controversial figure, but he loved America.  We loved seeing his home and how period perfect it had been restored.

After our visit here and lunch at the Hermitage lunch deli, we drove to the Grand Ole Opry.  We had a great backstage tour there.  We got to go on stage and see backstage dressing rooms, etc.  It was a wonderful opportunity to see this historic place.  Loved this opportunity!!

Our next day I experienced some health problems, but thanks to a great clinic, we got medication and moved on to our day!!  We drove all around Nashville.  We saw Broadway Street, the State Capitol, Vanderbilt University, and many other sites that we thought were important.

We had tickets to at concert at the Ryman this evening, and went home and got ready for that.  We had a great concert, and really enjoyed the experience of being in this historic auditorium.  We walked down to Broadway before the concert and heard some bands playing.  Apparently that was the place to be!!

Our next day we spent the day in Franklin, Tennessee.  It had a wealth of Civil War history.  We went to the Carnton Home and the Carter House.  Both homes played a huge part in the battle of Franklin!!  We were amazed at the homes and how much we learned.  The Carnton house had a cemetery that the family had established for the confederate soldiers lost in the war.  The Carter house had bullet holes throughout the house and surrounding buildings.  That was amazing to hear about and see history for ourselves.

After our wonderful afternoon, we went to eat at a true southern establishment, Monell's.  It was family style and we had great fried chicken (my favorite), and a true southern meal.  It was fun to sit with other guests.  We met a lady from Milwaukee, a couple from Washington state and a Nashville singer.  What a great evening!!
